Let there be Light (Fittings)!!

Originally an old fluorescent tube in the lounge and kitchen - we didn't like the style or energy efficiency of them so today I learned how to wire in new fittings.
*Remember - anything electrical needs to be isolated at the fuse box (& double checked with voltmeter at the wire)*
The old wire was black. Probably not far from being a fire!
Testing the light works before properly connecting to the ceiling.
On it all goes using the wire grips.
Lounge light all done. Just gotta clean and paint the nasty burn marks.
*It's easier to connect the wire to terminal before twisting into grips*

These light fittings are one of the first things we've bought for the house. From Trago Mills each light fitting cost £3.70 for both ceiling rose and cordgrip/bulb holder. Oh and the shades weren't much more.

Found the wire in my tool box, only had 3 core so just pulled the earth cable out as you only need 2 core (live and neutral) for bulbs.
